Gear Review: KEEN NXIS EVO Waterproof Boot

KEEN is a clever company and demonstrated its ingenuity by coming up with the Keen NXIS Evo Waterproof Boot. This new model is a hybrid of sorts and is a fantastic choice for hikers who are looking for the protection of a hiking boot but in a lightweight package to unlock serious scamper mode.

Get Out There took the boots for a test, and our gear critic was impressed.

“These shoes really are a hybrid, a cross between a trail runner and a hiking boot,” she says. “So you get that hiking protection while still being super light like a trail runner.”

The new NXIS Evo model has a performance mesh upper with TPU overlays for durability combined with a KEEN DRY waterproof and breathable membrane to offer both performance and serious protection from the elements.

In terms of stability, KEEN dropped in their KonnectFit heel-capture system, which gives a secure locked-in feeling to the foot, especially when going over rocks, roots, and other natural hazards out in the woods or on the mountain.

What our critic enjoyed most were the outsole and tread. The NXIS EVO has 4mm multi-directional lugs as well as an all-terrain rubber outsole for some serious traction and grip.

“My favourite part about the shoe is the tread,” she says. “it’s got deep lugs that are really great in any terrain and great traction. I’ve worn them on ice, snow, mud, trails, hills and they have not disappointed.”
